Tiny Mite Music

GBC Tiny Mite Halftime Routine Music

For the past few practices the girls have been learning their music routine for halftime and for the Competition/Fun Day Expo.  This routine is a series of motions that are set to 8 count sets. This always seems to be the most difficult for girls to remember as the numbers 1-8 keep repeating 10 or 11 different times. It gets confusing as to which motion comes next in sequence at this stage, but the girls will soon perform this part as well as their cheer!

The link above will provide you with the music they will be dancing to. While the girls are practicing at home, they can become familiar with the music and the counts.

I am hoping by the 8th, we will be able to showcase the dance part as well as the cheer during our halftime show.

This Sunday morning is our first HOME GAME!!  See everyone there!!

Game Day #1 GBC vs. North Brunswick Indians

Gooooo GBC Tiny Mites!!!!!!!

I have to say that we all should be sooo very proud of these fabulous girls!  They did a phenomenal job this morning at their first game!  I am so thrilled that each girl made it to the game and all the girls seemed so excited to be there!!!

All of these girls have come so far along in the short time we've had together thus far.  If you really look at it, it only has been 9 practices!!!  I have to say, they do look so impressive out there!  I can see it already, this team in 4-5 more years will be the team that other teams fear on competition day!!

Well I guess we can say that this season has officially started!!

Update on the schedule for the next couple of weeks...

Monday is Picture Day at 6:30pm at the Knights of Columbus.  Please be on time, we will be taking a team shot and want everyone in it!!

Monday's practice will be canceled.  It's not worth it to practice when they will be in uniforms and it usually takes some time to get pictures going.   If you have siblings in the organization and would like them all in a picture together, make sure all your children are there at 630 in uniform.  Sibling shots always come out soo cute!

We will have practice Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 6-730pm.  Rain or shine (hoping shine, but Mother Nature never seems to cooperate with us this time of year.). If it rains, we will try to secure the knights, and will send a text for confirmation that day.

School starts the following week for those of us who teach.  Therefore, the following week, the week of September 2nd, we will be switching over to a 2 day schedule.  We will NOT have practice on Monday, September 2nd.  We will begin a Wednesday and Friday practice schedule only starting September 4th.

Spirit Bear will also begin a Wednesday change over schedule.  Emily, please remember to bring Spirit on picture day.  I will hold onto her until Wednesday.  The next person will have her from Wednesday to Wednesday, instead of Mondays.

Parents, keep up the great work, I love and appreciate you all!!!  We will have to schedule a parents night out one night soon!!!

See everyone tomorrow at picture day!!!

Gooooo GBC!!!

August 12th Practice

Today we were able to accomplish a couple different things.  We first were able to get our entire Hello/Routine Cheer completed!!  I am hoping everyone is home practicing as I speak.  Only 2 more practices before we show off our skills to the parents, cheerleaders, football players, and the entire GBC family!!

For those of you who are unaware, Saturday from 4-7pm is the GBC Pep Rally at the Knights of Columbus in Spotswood.

In preparation for the Pep Rally, we fitted all the girls for their uniforms.  Everyone at this point should have their uniform.  If you have any issues with the size of the uniform, once you are home and can try it on without shorts and t-shirt, please be sure to inform Jeanine at our next practice.

Also, be sure to get your Pep Rally money and head count in ASAP.  We will need this information for the caterers.

Spirit Bear was returned today, and what a great experience she had with Danielle.  This week, Gionna will be taking care of Spirit Bear.  Hope she has an amazing time!!  Please be sure to remind our cheerleaders that everyone will have a turn with Spirit Bear.  If they did not get Spirit this week, they will have a chance before the end of the season.  I promise!!

We made one slight change to the Hello/Routine Cheer words.  I am trying to find an older cheerleader to demonstrate the routine on video.  These should be added shortly.

Hello/Routine Cheer

As far as sideline cheers are concerned, we will only be learning a few more before our first game.  We will be using game time to learn new cheers as we run out of ones to say during the games.

See you all on Wednesday!!

Splash Park Get-Together

What a fun day at the Splash Park in Monroe!!  4 of our 9 cheerleaders were able to make it and boy did they have a great time filling up buckets of water and drenching each other!!

Some of the girls were able to let loose and step out of their shells.  Thank you to our Team Mom, Jeanine, for planning it out!!  Can't wait for the next get-together!!  Hoping the next one can accommodate everyone's schedule.

See you all on Monday!!

August 7th Practice

A little rain doesn't stop GBC from practicing!! It was crazy hair night tonight and boy did we get to see some crazy hair!! I love the creativity you all have!

We tried working on our Hello/Routine Cheer tonight, but the girls were definitely exhausted!  So we learned a few more arm motions, sideline cheers and some games.

Be sure you're checking the blog throughout the week for updates and definitely on the weekend or days we don't have cheer, to take a look at the instructional videos that continually uploaded to the site.

This site can be viewed on any and all mobile devices.  So the girls can bookmark this page on their iPads/iPods/tablets/iPhones etc.. And watch the videos on their own to practice.  Just remember, they are mirror images.

August 5th Practice

What a great practice last night!!  Kelly and I got to meet all 8 of our cheerleaders and we got to speak to some of the parents.  It was fabulous!!

Before I start talking about practice, I just want to introduce Jeanine Calandruccio.  She is Jordan's mom and will be our Tiny Mite Team Mom.  If you have any questions comments or concerns about anything, she will be around to help you.  She will also be GBC's way to send out information to you via email or text.

Tonight all the girls were introduced to Spirit Bear.  Danielle was the first cheerleader to take her home for the week.  Please be sure to reassure your cheerleader that each girl will have a full week with Spirit Bear before the season closes.  If they aren't chosen right away, it does not mean they will never get chosen.  We all will need to take turns and wait for our turn to have the bear, but I PROMISE everyone will have a chance.

Wednesday is Crazy Hair Day.  Kelly will be giving a prize to the cheerleader who has gone above and beyond with their creativity!  Craziest, most creative, wildest hair style wins!!!

Today was very productive.  With all the girls at practice, we were able to start learning our Hello/Routine Cheer.  This cheer is a longer cheer that will be performed at the beginning of every game to welcome fans, as a halftime show, and at the Expo in October.  We learned a third of the routine and it is very important that everyone be at the next two practices this week to learn the rest.  Crossing my fingers, praying for sun all week long!!

At all practices, I will be putting PolySpots down on the ground. These are plastic lettered circles that are placed on the floor to mark a spot.  Each girl was assigned a spot where they will be standing at games to cheer sidelines and where they will stand to start their Hello Cheer.  These spots will help the girls learn spacing and transitioning from place to place within the routine.

The following are the assigned spot letters for each girl:

A - Jordan
B - Gionna
C - Emily
D - Olivia
T - Gabby
S - Mikayla
E - Danielle
M- Jorden

Our Go Bananas Song has gone viral!!  Starting Wednesday, our cheerleaders will be starting practice with the older cheerleaders doing our Go Bananas Song!!  To quote a parent from yesterday, "It's Catchy!" And it sure has caught on rather quickly!

I absolutely love this song.  It does 2 things for our team.  1. It gets their attention back.  As you know, 5/6 year olds bore very easily.  As soon as I see that we are losing their attention, I start and their eyes light up.  And 2. It is great for cardio.  Every cheerleader or any sports player, for that matter, needs to condition and get their heart rate up.  I would rather the girls sing this song and jump around than do the traditional "run a lap".  Now, if they were 8 and up, I would have the girls running to condition, but let's face it, 5/6 year olds are here for one thing....to have FUN and if I can get the same heart pumping effects with a dance, instead of running, I'm all for it!!

I will be posting a poll. (If viewing this on your mobile device, you may have to click 'View Web Version' all the way at the bottom of the page to see it.)  I am thinking about delaying our practice time to start at 6:15 instead of 6.  It may not have any impact on people during the summer, but I think it may help parents later on in the season.  With a later start time, it will give parents a few extra minutes to get through traffic, or for those with  more than one child, it will make it easier to drop off the older child, or the football player first.  Practices will all start at 6pm and all teams will end up in different locations in the fall. This isn't something definite, but I would like everyone's input.

Here are the cheers that were learned today. Videos will be posted as they are created.

Cheers:

Spirit Bear

Introducing the new addition to our Tiny Mite family!!

Spirit Bear

Hello!  I am Spirit Bear and I'm so very excited to be part of GBC's Tiny Mite family.  I am here to bring SPIRIT to all of our Tiny cheerleaders and their families.

Each week, I will be spending some time at one cheerleader's home!  During that time, we can practice all kinds of cheers and routines, listen to cheer music, dance, and GO BANANAS!!

We can take pictures or just journal everything we've done during our time together for others to see and read.  Let's tell them all about the cheers we've practiced, the places we've gone or the things we've done.

Before it's time to send me off to someone else, leave me with something to bring. It can be a bow, accessories such as beads or pins, socks, shoes, clothing, little signs, pom poms, sunglasses, etc.  Be creative!!

At the end of the season banquet, I will be raffled off to one lucky cheerleader!!

I can't wait to meet all of you!!

Cheerfully yours,

Spirit Bear

August 2nd Practice

Welcome to the 2013 season!!!

My name is Mariestelle Magliano and I will be the Tiny Mite head coach for this year.  Kelly Parks will also be helping our team throughout the season as our Junior Coach.  We had the pleasure of meeting some of you on Friday, at practice, and we can't wait to meet the rest of you.

I am very excited to be back with GBC, this year as a Tiny Mite coach.  I have many different ideas to make this season truly enjoyable for all the girls.

I decided to try something new this year with starting a team blog.  This is a place where I can post information to everyone and provide resources for all of you to utilize with your little cheerleaders.

Friday at practice, we got to a really great start!   We learned 7 new sideline cheers, some arm motions and a fun little game.  I am in the process of creating videos of all the sideline cheers and posting them on here as a resource for your daughters to watch and practice them correctly.  The girls can just follow along with the videos as they are mirror images of what the cheer looks like.  In the video, the cheerleader is using her left arm, so the girls can follow and use their right arm.  These should be up within the week.

Below, you will find the words to the cheers we learned on Friday as well as the arm motions that were taught.

Arm Motions:

Low V

Broken T
Daggers
